Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is widening its Construction & Mining Machinery distribution book through a partnership with FAYAT Road Equipment Division (FRED) India to market BOMAG road milling machines, soil stabilisers and cement spreaders across India.
The arrangement covers:
- Marketing
- Sales
- After-sales support
- Spares supply
Anil V Parab, Senior Executive Vice President and Whole-time Director – Manufacturing at L&T, framed the move as an extension of the company's equipment-technology legacy. Abhijit Som, Managing Director of FRED India, tied it to the Viksit Bharat 2047 infrastructure push.
Milling machines, soil stabilisers and cement spreaders are rehabilitation and full-depth reclamation assets, not greenfield paving capacity. As India's highway network matures and NHAI shifts toward asset renewal, demand is moving from new-build pavers to pavement recycling and maintenance machinery.
L&T is positioning itself on that brownfield curve.
Commercially, this is a service and parts play. L&T's nationwide support network, anchored by its Nagpur central warehouse, turns a distribution agreement into recurring spares, technical support and lifecycle revenue — higher margin than one-time machine sales and a lock-in to L&T's support ecosystem.
For FAYAT and BOMAG, routing through L&T avoids building a greenfield dealer network while giving immediate access to L&T's road-builder relationships. The distribution risk — inventory, working capital and channel execution — sits with L&T, but the BOMAG range fills gaps in its existing road machinery portfolio.
The competitive exposure lands on incumbent road-equipment distributors, particularly Wirtgen Group's milling franchise, which has dominated India's cold-milling segment. L&T's entry intensifies service and price competition in the premium rehabilitation tier.
The structural read: India's road machinery market is maturing from project-driven new-build sales toward lifecycle, maintenance and renewal economics. Distributors with strong service infrastructure, not just sales reach, will capture the value.
