Parthala Underpass: Noida's Point Fix, Not a Corridor Cure

4 min read

Approval Status: In-Principle Only

The Noida Authority has moved a six-lane, 710-metre underpass at Parthala Chowk to in-principle approval, but the ₹80-crore intervention is not yet a contract.

General Manager A.K. Arora has confirmed a Detailed Project Report will now be prepared, followed by tendering.

No contractor, contract value, or commencement date is publicly verified.

Engineering Logic and Corridor Risk

That sequencing matters.

Parthala already carries a cable-stayed flyover opened in June 2023 for the Vikas Marg movement.

The new underpass would separate the intersecting Faridabad–Noida–Ghaziabad (FNG) axis below the junction.

The engineering logic is sound: one movement elevated, another depressed, local distribution at surface level.

Commercial Risk

The commercial risk is that Noida Authority is procuring a point solution without a published corridor-level traffic model.

The 2023 flyover accelerated discharge toward Gaur Chowk on the Greater Noida West side, where downstream constraints absorbed the queue.

Noida and Greater Noida authorities have not published a combined approach-to-receiving-link capacity case, so an underpass that releases more FNG through-traffic risks relocating the same bottleneck.

Sizing Risk

The sizing risk is equally live.

The FNG corridor remains incomplete—only 11.6 kilometres of 23 kilometres under Noida's jurisdiction were reported completed as of July 2026.

An underpass sized against current volumes may under-deliver against eventual corridor operation; sizing it for full FNG build-out may overcapitalise today.

The DPR's traffic assumptions need to be disclosed.

Execution and Contractor Outlook

Execution will be technically demanding.

The reported diaphragm-wall method under an operating junction and existing flyover requires:

- Settlement control
- Temporary works
- A disclosed construction traffic-management plan

Two sump-and-pumping arrangements make drainage an operational system—power, backup, discharge and monsoon maintenance—not a design afterthought.

For contractors, this is a small but high-risk urban package.

The estimate has already moved from roughly ₹85.5 crore to ₹80 crore without published reconciliation.

The real bid risk sits in traffic diversion, diaphragm walling and drainage reliability, not in 710 metres of box structure.

The firm that eventually wins the tender will be judged less on completion than on whether journey times through Parthala and the links beyond it actually improve.
