Guntur ROB: Railways 100% Funds ₹108 Cr to End Gate 3

Foundation Stone Laid for the Guntur–Nambur Road Over Bridge

The Ministry of Railways has moved decisively on a small project with outsized signalling value.

On 26 September, Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti Shri V. Somanna laid the foundation stone for a 668-metre, four-lane Road Over Bridge between Guntur and Nambur stations, replacing Level Crossing Gate No. 3 on the Guntur–Krishna Canal section at ₹108 crore.

The bridge is 100% funded by the Ministry of Railways.

ROBs in lieu of level crossings have historically been cost-shared with state governments. Absorbing the full outlay removes funding friction, accelerates sanction, and shifts delivery squarely onto railway agencies.

The gain is not only Guntur traffic flow — it is South Coast Railway throughput and punctuality.

Land, Not Construction, Is the Timeline Risk

Located near Guntur's Inner Ring Road, linking Bus Stand Road to Gorantla village, the ROB needs only 2.9 acres.

Land is the real gate: with works slated to "commence shortly," timeline risk sits in land handover and utility shifting, not construction.

Stakeholders: Who Owns, Executes and Sponsors

Stakeholders are clearly delineated across ownership, execution and political sponsorship.

- The Ministry of Railways owns, funds and bears commercial risk.
- South Coast Railway, under General Manager Shri Sandeep Mathur, executes.
- Divisional Railway Manager Guntur Smt. Sudheshna Sen coordinated the launch.
- Political sponsorship came via Shri V. Somanna and Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, MoS Rural Development and Communications and Guntur MP, alongside RS MP Bashyam Ramakrishna and local MLAs.

Two Commercial Signals to Watch

Two signals matter commercially.

First, Rs 3,500 crore across 74 Andhra Pradesh stations marks a sustained amenity-and-safety capex lane, distinct from track doubling.

Second, Railway-funded ROB/RUB elimination is evolving into a repeatable pipeline — shifting procurement toward railway-designated agencies and standardised designs rather than state road bodies.

For EPC players: smaller tickets, faster sanctions, tighter level-crossing elimination targets.
