When the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) floated tenders in April for two new elevated corridors, nine agencies lined up. Only one walked away with the contract: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) , emerging as the lowest bidder for a combined project value of approximately ₹2,670 crore.
The award bundles two distinct stretches:
- Botanical Garden–Sector 142 (11.56 km): 8 stations, valued at ₹2,254.35 crore
- Depot–Boraki (2.6 km): 2 stations – Junpat and Boraki – valued at ₹416 crore
Both corridors are fully elevated and targeted for completion within three years.
“Construction will commence within a month,” confirmed Pradeep Yadav, NMRC General Manager (Projects).
Groundwork has been underway for some time. A Detail Design Consultant was appointed last year to prepare civil, architectural, electrical, and mechanical designs. A General Consultant subsequently validated the DPR, alignment, geotechnical data, and system requirements before assisting with tender documentation.
For L&T, the contract reinforces its dominance in India’s urban metro EPC market. The company already holds metro contracts across Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Adding Noida strengthens its NCR footprint at a moment when the region’s metro expansion is accelerating — driven partly by the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar.
The corridor is, in effect, a Jewar connectivity play. Botanical Garden has overtaken Kashmere Gate as the busiest station on the Delhi Metro network, recording 2.71 lakh daily passengers in June 2026. Once this corridor opens, commuter flow toward Greater Noida and onward to Jewar will have a dedicated elevated link — reducing dependence on road-based last-mile connectivity.
The Depot–Boraki extension serves a different strategic purpose: multimodal integration. Boraki is the site of the proposed Multimodal Transport Hub (MMTH) , which will house an Interstate Bus Terminal and a railway passenger terminal. The metro link transforms this node from a standalone facility into an integrated transit interchange.
NMRC is also experimenting with station financing. The corporation has invited expressions of interest from multinational companies to co-brand upcoming stations under a model where the private partner finances, constructs, operates, and maintains a station in return for naming rights, commercial space, and advertising rights over a fixed lease period. If the model gains traction, it could reduce NMRC’s upfront capital burden.
A third corridor — Sector 51 to Greater Noida West Sector 4 with five stations — has cleared the Public Investment Board and awaits Union Cabinet approval. That corridor, once tendered, will add further momentum to Noida’s metro buildout.
The real signal for the infrastructure sector is not simply that L&T won. It is that NMRC is executing a deliberate, corridor-by-corridor expansion toward Jewar while testing hybrid station-financing models — and L&T is positioning itself as the default EPC anchor for this buildout.
With nine bidders chasing these contracts, competition is intense. But when design validation is complete, tender documents are consultant-vetted, and a lowest-bidder process prevails, the contractor with the deepest procurement efficiencies and execution bandwidth wins. L&T’s win confirms that formula is intact.
