Man Infraconstruction books Rs 583 crore in Mumbai

The triangular yard sits inside Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority at Nhava Sheva. Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal Private Limited wants it reclaimed, and sent Man Infraconstruction a letter of acceptance to do the work. Ports seldom hold triangular plots by choice. They hold what is left once the rectangular ground has been allocated.

That order is worth Rs 75 crore, about 13% of the Rs 583 crore announced. The company calls it a repeat order, which tells you the terminal has bought this contractor's reclamation before and already knows what the ground costs per square metre.

The other order is Rs 508 crore, roughly 87% of the total, for a tall residential tower at Marine Lines in South Mumbai. Both were filed on 3 November, six days after the September quarter results of 29 October. Together they lift the EPC order book to around Rs 858 crore from Rs 275 crore in September. Add it up: 275 plus 583 is 858, so not a rupee of the increase comes from escalation on older work.

What the filing leaves unread is how much of the Rs 275 crore September book was the group's own developments, which is the figure you need before you can say what share of Rs 858 crore is third-party work.

The bigger contract names no client and no date

Managing director Manan Shah said the larger pipeline gives the building arm a clearer view of revenue over the next few years, and that the group will keep building for its own projects while taking outside work selectively. A developer negotiating a completion date at Marine Lines is therefore buying residual capacity, and pays either for precedence or for the wait.

The tower's buyer is never named. Neither is a floor count, a start date, a completion date or an EPC margin, though the release does define EPC as the firm handling the whole build for a client, which puts scope and site risk on Man Infraconstruction. Six decades of ports, mass housing and high-rise work, over 60 million square feet built, and one of the two contracts gets a value and a street. A Rs 508 crore award with no published schedule is a decision about what to publish.

The stock read the headline first. Day high of Rs 111.54, Rs 108.70 by 11:52 am, up 1.11%, against a twelve-month loss of 25.38% and a range from a Rs 149.58 high down to Rs 77.12.

The Rs 75 crore job arrives with a named client, a defined yard and a repeat price to argue from. Everything the market actually marked up sits in the other one, at Rs 508 crore.
