Bihar Vigilance Hits Road Engineer for 61% Asset Surplus

The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has moved against a mid-ranking executing officer inside Bihar's Road Construction Department, a step that pushes enforcement into the operational chokepoints of road delivery rather than confining it to top-bureaucratic or political layers.

Case Registration and Asset Recovery

Simultaneous searches on Friday covered Patna, Nalanda and Khagaria at locations linked to Executive Engineer Sanjay Kumar, posted in Khagaria.

The case was registered on August 13 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amended 2018). Kumar is accused of holding assets worth Rs 1.01 crore, roughly 61% above known sources of income.

Searches yielded significant movable and immovable assets across multiple locations:

- 13 plots in Kumar's and his wife's names
- 13 immovable properties valued at Rs 1.88 crore
- A three-storey residential building in Biharsharif
- Rs 1.29 lakh in cash
- Gold jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh
- Silver valued at Rs 68,574

VIB DG Jitendra Singh Gangwar said the investigation is ongoing and further action will follow valuation reports.
