Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has moved the Rithala–Narela–Kundli corridor from clearance into procurement, floating a civil package covering 10 stations and the associated elevated viaduct. The tender converts a long-delayed Phase IV extension into a defined construction pipeline on the Red Line's northern limb.
The corridor extends Line 1 from Rithala through the Narela sub-city and over the Delhi-Haryana border into Kundli, adding roughly 26.4 km of elevated alignment and about 21 stations at an estimated ₹6,230 crore.
Funding is split across:
- Government of NCT of Delhi
- Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
- Government of Haryana, for the Kundli section
The commercially significant detail is packaging. Bundling 10 stations with the viaduct into one civil envelope transfers station-viaduct interface risk to a single EPC contractor and removes the coordination claims that typically inflate metro civil costs.
DMRC is buying schedule certainty by consolidating scope rather than slicing the corridor.
Bidder response will test Tier-1 appetite. Larsen & Toubro, Afcons Infrastructure, G R Infraprojects, HCC, ITD Cementation and KEC International will price mobilisation, rebar and formwork exposure against a corridor where Narela's ridership remains immature and land acquisition along the GT Karnal Road alignment is still a delivery variable.
Patronage risk sits with the Delhi government, not the civil contractor, but utility shifting and the Haryana border segment will shape completion timelines.
For the supply chain, the package opens near-term demand across:
- Precast segment casting
- Structural steel
- Bearings
- Elevated station systems
The underlying signal is procurement-led acceleration. DMRC is using integrated civil packaging to compress Phase IV delivery and lock North Delhi's planned urban extension into the metro network, converting a politically significant corridor into an executable works programme.
